New to me Woods RM 660 deck
Picked up this deck on Wednesday to help with my mowing duties at work. I am the third owner and I know the first two. It has always been stored inside, the blades are in great shape, spindles seem solid and all the zerks took grease. The second owner, who I have known for 30 years, had extra gussets welded to the casters and had it painted kubota orange. woods.jpg

The original brackets to which the trailing wheels are attached are 1/2" x 2 1/2" flat stock. These were strengthened by adding a length of 2" x 3" heavy walled tubing between them.

The front caster brackets are made of the same size material. Each one is braced with a piece of 1" square stock which is welded to a length of angle that is welded to the deck housing. There are also additional angle braces welded to support the mounting points for the lift arms.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
