We used to lay an empty pop can on the ground and have the operator extend the boom out and roll the can back to the machine without crushing the can and keeping the bucket off the ground.

About 8 or 9 years ago I had a guy come lift off and put back the engine on a 55 Deere combine. He used a smaller Cat track hoe (not one of those toys you dig footings with), maybe a bigger bucket than a full sized backhoe. Anyway, when he set it down on the combine, 5 of the 6 bolt holes lined up so well I could just drop the bolts in. had to use a little persuasion to get the last one in. That Cat had the smoothest hydraulics of anything I have ever seen.
