I just got a nice 50" deck shell like that yesterday/ pitted but solid. I have a 44" version that is beyond "shot" that I want to swap the spindles and such over to (Yeah I know that I will need that I will need a new set of blades to go with the 50....) I need to either find, or make, a reinforcement plate for it.

Please report on how your 1200 handles that deck. I've never used a 50 on
anything less than 18hp. I know it will work but just want your opinion. I think Jmech has one but his engines are well tuned. The deck looks nice by the way.

Does the faster pulley work on a 50 inch deck or should I get a new 79 inch belt?

Did you forget to replace the runner on the left side?

I do have a speed up pulley on it and gator blades. The pulley is NLA. The gators seem to make the clippings smaller. The pulley seems to throw the clippings a little further than the standard.

Thanks jaynjeep. I have seen the carriage bolts online. I have not checked all the local hardware stores yet, might get lucky. This coming weekend I hunt them down. Thanks, TB

remember today's (actually the last 15-20 years) "HP" is nothing like "HP" was when these tractors were current production..... remember something about newer engines.... stickers are cheap. IDK how B&S can get anywhere from 14 to 18HP out of an opposed twin with the same bore/stroke.... the 18 is probably a truer 14HP.... |

The 1200 seems to handle the 50" with no problems. Sometimes I do have to slow down if the grass is too thick, like most other mowers, but the 12 hp seems to power it ok. Thanks, TB |

Howdy folks. Here is an update on the deck project. Got the top plate primed and painted with three coats. Got the rear hangers primed and painted. got the spindles primed and painted. The previous owner had replaced the right spindle with a newer style spindle, it seems to work fine and cut even, although I may search for an original at some point. I replaced the idler pulley as it was seizing up. I did not order a "cub" idler by part number, but instead found an exmark idler with the same dimensions. All I needed to do was to press out the 5/8 to 3/8 adapter (with a shoulder), and press it into the new pulley I did find all the carriage bolts I needed in stainless as well as all the other bolts. It is all back together with the relatively new blades sharpened. All that is left now is to get it dirty, then see how it cleans up after use. Here is a few pics. Thanks, TB

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
