782 Command re power.. CH20 or CH18?
Hey Guys,
I have a lead on two different engines.. I want to do a repower on one of my IH built 782's at some point in the future.. Looking for tips, tricks and what parts I should grab The first engine is from a 2084.. what parts should I grab that I may need.. I know I will need the complete engine, mounting plate, clutch and muffler/shields etc.. I can get other parts from the tractor... just not the whole unit.. The second engine is from an 1864.. same deal... what parts should I get? Is either engine better than the other for the repower? Any tips, or suggestions appreciated... Ive never dug into the repower side of things. I like the old opposed twins but I have two tired ones and have a chance at either one of these commands at a good price. Thanks in advance!

The 2082 would have a 20hp magnum engine if it is orig.

I have both a CH18 and CH20, they are exactly the same engine, at least from what I can determne.
the only difference is the carbureter. I really like them both, they are super easy to work on. my CH18 has over 1000 hours on it, hour meter stopped at 915 the CH20 has around 1300 on the clock they both needed some new oil seals and good cleaning of the colling fins but both run great.

What Terry said. And you will want to do the driveshaft mod too.

Buy'em both, you said you had two tired ones. I know the pullers put the 18 heads on the 25's for more compression. Mike

Pretty sure they use the same head. Not sure how that would help. If they are different, show me in the parts book.

The CH20 is a higher hour engine... but a lot cheaper.. Both are supposed to be complete just as they were pulled out with PTO, muffler, muffler shields etc.. Waiting on pictures of the engines now

Ditto on getting the low hours engine if you can only get one. If you truly believe that you will repower your other tired Cub at some point in the future, get both. Who knows if a good deal will come around again when you need it. You'll kick yourself at some point if you don't. There! Feel better Jay?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
