Default Blades won't engage ltx1040

So in the middle of mowing last week I lost a bearing in my mower deck... while I had the deck off I replaced all bearings to the blades, and put on new blades... reassembled everything and went to mow and now the blades won't engage... i guess my question is what could be the culprit... mower deck is installed properly properly with the cable and springs put back on as well... keep in mind I was in the middle of mowing when the bearing originally let loose and the blade disengaged when that happened... so what am I missing? Do I have something out of adjustment? Pto cable? Springs on mower deck? Pto safety switch? Please help me find what I need to do next !

Is your PTO electric or mechanical?

I would think, You could just see if the throw of the cable actual moves it. could be a spring is held up by something. He didnt say if he heard it start to actuate and make noise like something is stuck or if id did nothing. Sounds like something in PTO is stuck

I'm betting it was a belt routing issue, and that's why we haven't heard back. Probably figured it out and moved on.

Profile shows he hasn't visited since he made the post. Probably won't hear from him again. I'd not lose sleep over it guys.

Yeah. Throw parts at it. One of those might be the problem.....
Or you could engage the blades with the machine off, get down on your hands and knees and look for what the problem is....

Yea I typically only like to take things apart as few times as possible so once I got under the mower I seen all the belts were frayed badly and the cable to the pto looked loose to me and it wasn't engaging the tensioner ... hard to tell a persons sense of humor from a computer screen 🙄...

I don't think anyone was trying to be humorous.. A little sarcasm from J-Mech maybe but he is correct. Diagnose problem, Order parts, repair, is the order it usually goes in. If you skip step one you will likely waste time and money and will almost certainly take it apart more than once.

Me too. That's why I disassemble, diagnose and repair. That way you only take it apart once. If you only like doing things once, then why didn't you get new belts when you replaced the bearings and the blades on the deck? That makes sense right? You surely noticed the belt was frayed when you took the deck off to change all that.

If the cable that pulls idler to tighten (AKA: PTO) looked "loose" then why don't you see why it is loose. Last tractor I worked on with that type of set up had an adjustment on it. Is that cable frayed? Is the idler binding? Is the belt tight? Is it hitting something? Did you route the belt right? Did you install the deck correctly?? Too many variables to just say "Oh, the PTO cable must be bad, and the belt isn't any good."

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
