Well....... that is still up for debate. I'm more worried about actually getting it built than I am about how to lift it..... that's easy. I've been wanting to build one for 2 years now and haven't done it yet. Hydraulic is what I will build it to be, but that can easily be switched out with an electric lift if i don't get a pump on the gear drive tractor.

Looks good Jon. What are they and where did you get them?

Can't wait for the disc build.

Thanks Sam, Steve and Todd.

Todd,
I got the tires off Ebay. Here is the sellers page. Interestingly enough, no items for sale right now. Shipping was free, and I paid $64 for the pair with tubes. Best price I found.
The tires themselves are Deestone 4.00-8 tires. I see they offer them in both 3.50-8 and 4.00-8.... I wanted the wider tire so I went with the 4.00, but honestly I don't know whether there is any difference or not. Price was different. The 3.50's are quite a bit cheaper.... but I've seen other tractors with the tri-ribs and I thought they looked funny and extra narrow. Maybe different tire brand, or maybe they were the smaller tire.... either way, the 4.00's were quite a bit taller than the ones that were on it, so it raised it back up to a more regular height. They were at least 2" taller overall, but when plowing in a dead furrow, any height addition is good. Yet another reason to go to 8.50's on the rear. Taller.

The disk project will be fun.... if I get to it. I wasn't going to bring it up, but Zippy wanted to know what the plan was with duals. I'm just not happy with the Brinly tandem disk, and I don't want to hunt for a 3pt Brinly. Besides, from what I see they have the same issue. Not large enough blades, wrong blade dish, wrong gang angle. Jerry Collier is the only one I've seen who rebladed his disk with the 12" blades that I want to use. Really improved it.... but it's still just barely as wide as the tractor, and looks like the gang angle could still be improved. Besides.... if you don't count the time I'll have in making it, I'm certain that the steel won't cost any more than the price of a Brinly cat 0 disk and new blades for it. Here's to hoping I get to it!

Thumbs up

Good deal on the tires, no kidding! I seen a guy across the street just recently made a disk set up like that, but I think its a little better, IDK? You might be right going with the 2.5" spacer. I sold Jerry my 2" spacers a while ago, which he uses quite a bit.

Now, since I don't plow yet, I had a tandem disk gang that would really mince up my garden, so well my tiller never tangled in any bean plants or anything! Darn I miss my IH 42" rear mount tiller!!!!!

Got the 1050 out today and used it. LOVE the tri-ribs. Made steering in plowed ground about 10X better!

I can't believe I plowed with no weights and with the "turf" tires on it. That tread pattern they used to use really is pretty good. But I will still switch back to AG's and load them. Heavier is better.

Glad I got it done too. Started raining here this evening. Supposed to rain all day tomorrow. Probably my last chance to have gotten it plowed.

Clay? Or just hard dense soil?

It helps that I plow it every year. Keeps it loose.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
