2518 / Command CH18s low RPM
Another RPM issue. Seems like something fell out of adjustment. I mowed half of the lawn and after a break I went to start it up and it sounded like it was at about 1/2 throttle.
I tried playing with the throttle adjustment bolt (not sure of the official name for that but it's the adjustable bolt shown in this pic) to no avail. If I grab the governor arm that has with multiple spring holes and manually pull on it slowly, it seems to rev up fine. Could anyone give me any pointers on what else I might try adjusting? |

It looks like your "throttle adjustment bolt" is backed off way too much.
Check out my recent thread for some possible tips and pointers. Also, word of caution: consult your owners manual and the engine technical manual before making any adjustments! That little bolt you are tinkering with can mean the difference between a 1000 max rpm and 5000 max rpm thus an exploding engine. Your best bet to get it right on since you've adjusted it thus far is to get a digital tach gauge and set it from there. http://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=48993

Hmm.
I tried screwing it in but didn't seem to make a difference, maybe I didn't tighten it in enough. I will check it out tomorrow. Thanks. |

It's also possible your gov arm came loose from the gov shaft that goes into the engine. Again, check with the service manual for the how to on resetting that

Looks like the throttle cable slipped in it's clamp and it won't allow the throttle to go wide open.

However, if he did adjust his high rpm bolt there, he's probably going to have to re-adjust it again

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
