Default Progress on the 1864

The 1864 is coming along nicely. This thing was a mess, I found two loose magnets in the flywheel just like PaulS describes in his "near disaster" post. Glued them back in with 2 part epoxy and its just like new.
New front and rear seals, governor shaft seal, head gaskets, valve covers, etc.
Another couple of weekends and I'll get some much anticipated seat time on her. Can't wait!

I give up. Why did you take the crankcase cover off?

Really just to look things over, clean and change the governor shaft seal. I always feel better when I know what is going on inside of my engines. I blame it on OCD!

When you buy a new car, do you open those engines up too? Just curious.

Unless you totally disassemble everything, you won't see much. Can't see the pistons, valves seats, crank journals, rod "bearing"...... You can see it doesn't have any broken parts, but if it runs that would have been a good assumption. Really just a waste of time and money to open up a motor "just to look". Not trying to be a jerk, just trying to save you money.

I am not one of them but many do it just for "the children" and some do it for "peace of mind".

He did a nice clean up job.

Smile 1864 Is Done. Finally!

Thought I would post some photos of the final stages of resurrecting this gal. She is ready to kill some grass and did a great job this week on her maiden voyage.
Here are some photos of when I pulled her out of the wilderness as she was "becoming one with the earth, about 18 months ago". a couple of pics on the trailer as she met her new home (shop) and finally some 54GT deck pics (all stainless hardware, new bearings and races, etc).
Yes, she still needs some plastic and decals, but that will come in time, I have a smoker to pay some attention to now.....

Looks good. I have the same deck under a 1641. I ended up removing the belt guards on the deck because they pack full of grass. Now I can just hit it with the leaf blower when I'm done mowing.

I just removed mine.

Good job on the 1864. The deck turned out nice.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
