Default New member checking in!

Hello everyone,
My name is Mike, screen name is h.d.fire (I used to be into Harley Davidsons and I'm a retired career Firefighter/Paramedic, see what I did there?....lol). I just bought a 1450 quite line garden tractor. It's a 1974, needs a little work but I think it'll be a fun project! I remember MANY years ago my Dad bought a brand new model 124, he taught me a lot about mechanics over the years doing maintenance on that old machine.
I'm also an avid Hot Rod builder and have a collection of cars & trucks.
Looking forward to networking with you guys!
Have a Happy and Safe Fourth of July!!!

Always good to see another member from the "dysfunctional state".

Lots of great folks and good info here.

Hi Guys,
Yea, sometimes you cringe when you tell people you're from Illinois! lol
I'm in Minooka, small town about 5 miles west of Joliet, right off I-80. Born in Chicago (MANY years ago, thank goodness!), grew up in Plainfield. I was a Firefighter/Paramedic in Naperville.

Default update with some pictures!

Thought I'd update my intro page with some pictures of my 1450. She's no beauty queen, but I finally got it running today and took a couple pictures:

I bought this tractor through a craigslist add and as they sometimes go, it wasn't quite what the seller described...
I've added a new battery, starter solenoid, plug, points, condensor, air filter, oil change, hydraulic fluid filter, deck belt, drive belt, and working on getting the mower deck operational again. It also included a snow thrower that I've yet to dive into. Seems to be running well now and the trans operated as it should. I hope to use it this summer for mowing the pasture and clearing the drive over the winter. Maybe a restoration next spring.

Welcome Mike. And I would say the opposite and that's not a bad looking 1450 at all. The IH hub caps are money and the rear lift and lights options are a plus too. I like the way someone redid the seat cushion. Looks like a combination of the 6 pad and the other textured mid back seat of that era. Overall looks a lot better than the rags I bring home. Sounds like it just needed some simple routine maintenance and you've been good to go. Thanks for posting!

Welcome and I love the hub caps. I have them on my 782. Nice looking tractor.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
