Stens vs Kohler
Do you guys think Stens or Kohler parts are better. I'm looking to put rings in my 1250 and wanted to know who made the better quality parts. The only reason im asking is that Stens parts are much cheaper, and if you guys think there quality parts ill go with them(i'm only 15 and don't have much money).

Ahhh, the age old question.
You will most likely get as many different opinions as you get responders. Good luck with you final decision. |

In my years of building trucks, cars,Harley's,and now cubs, I have always had this notion. If the stock part wore out in an acceptable time period to you, then replace it with the same thing. If it is cheaper their is usually a reason for that. If the stock part broke from mis-use or under extreme conditions, then another stock part is going to break also. Find a better part.
I think if Kohler thought Stens made good enough parts for the price, they would come from the factory with them. JOE

i agree, if you plan on keeping it, and the original parts lasted 40 something years, why not spend a little extra money and put it back the way it was. hopefully you can get another 40 years out of it. good luck!

I think I may go with the cheap rings depending how much kohler wants for a set. I only need it to hold me over for next summer when I rebuild it, and I only use this tractor for snow plowing as I only put 75 or so hrs. on it each year. I just hate it when my tractor smokes! Darn I used alot of I's....... poor grammar!

Kohler motor = kohler parts, plain and simple.. Granted not everyone has a ton of money these days but look at it this way. Save for kohler parts and enjoy it another 20-30yrs, buy stens and spend a fair amount more than the kohler parts when the stens crap out along with other major parts they take with them..

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
