My 2284 suddenly won’t start ????
I got my 2284 out today and took the deck and mule off and put the 551 blower on. I drove it around the yard with the kids in the #2 cart before this. I parked it and put the blower on. Then I went to start it to lift the blower and put it away in my garage and nothing. Symptoms: pretty new battery, 12.7 volts to the lug on the solenoid. I’m getting MINUS 12v at the blue wire to engage the solenoid with the key on and 3.7V with the key at the start position. I tried a screw driver across the lugs of the solenoid and nothing happens. There is no clicking anywhere, the starter solenoid doesn’t click and the fuel solenoid doesn’t click. But the head lights come on with the key at the lights position. The dash lights come on too. I suspected the brake switch at first but with the brake up the light to depress the pedal comes on. With it down it goes out. What gives? Maybe the starter pooped the bed but why would I get negative volts on the solenoid blue wire in the run position? I tried another ignition switch I had from a 1864 and no different. I’m dumped at the moment....

No I didn’t check the terminals. But I only put the battery in when I got it like 2 months ago. I doubt that would be an issue but I’ll be checking it. I ran out of daylight because it’s in my driveway and I can’t push it with the blower on the ground.
PTO switch is off. And the pto clicks when I flip the switch on, and the light comes on saying disengage pto.

Roland wins. I re bolted the ground wire to the engine and it fired right up. That was weird because the bolt and the ring connection are clean. I took it off and put it back on and it works. So the lights and everything we working off the wiring harness ground but the engine wouldn’t because the battery cable ground needed some attention.

Mine is bolted to one of the holes on the side of the engine by the oil drain.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
