The later power kings weren't as high quality as the early ones, not as sturdily built. The first ones were a real hoot, a ford model a transmission and axle with 24in rear tires like a farmall and individual hand brakes! I have a picture of on my father re-did somewhere, I'll post it if I can find it. We have one my grandfather bought new in 1981 I believe, has a 14hp kohler, dual transmissions, hydraulics, and a cat 0 3pt. I know he must have loved it a lot, because it stayed In The garage while the 149 stayed outside under a tarp! My grandfather died in 1985 so it saw little use, and stayed in my grandfather's garage until my grandmother moved in 1994. It came to my father and we used it, but babied it in the same way grandpa did. to this day is still has the nubs on the tires!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
