Cub Cadet 100 restor
Morn, well this is my offical post to this great place of knowledge. Last fall I stumbled upon a neglected, but stored indoors cub 100 They had just torn down a leanto shed that was pulling the garage to one side. They didnt know that her father had this.
I asked my friend what they were going to do with it and she told me to take it if I wanted it. My plan was to just get it running again, which it did. But then I had a lot of free time since times are tough. |

Since then, I have been in the garage with PB blaster, pnematic tools and dirty overalls tearing this down to managable pieces.
Steering column was seized and broke upon removal. But I had a new, rebuilt one coming from a website. I had a bear of a time removing the pivot pin. It came out but the pin has no grooves to hold any grease of any kind. Im planning on putting a grease zert in the under center, but also thinking of grooving the pin to allow some channels. Next was the clutch assembly. Scratchen my head on this one. Im at the point of disasembly of the clutch plates. Is there a tool to compress the spring so that I dont get a smashed finger or something??? |

My next step was to remove all the rust and paint to do a decent job of restoring this cub. I figured with little money and time on my hand, I turned to science. I spent 32 bucks on some threaded rod, shelving angle iron and 100% lye product and am now using the electricity action for overnight relief of rust, paint, grime and dirt. Heres a link to my youtube vid.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6mfu-ESOOGA Heres a pic of my first setup, that did NOT work. I have some pics to come of the foot pedels before and after. I also spent an hour at a scrap yard ,and found some new metal sheets and metal rods for the anodes for my 55 gal drum system. Thanks for looking. I have everything torn down to the bare metal, and plan to build a paint booth and do a decent job. Not sure what to do with the engine. It runs, does not knock, and no smoke...... May just tear down a little and resurface some items. |

Thanks guys, im also looking forward to this. I have a lot to learn as far as body work, fill and painting. Im hoping I dont screw anything up.
I have filled some of the rust pitting from it sitting under a leaky roof. As well as the seat. It was in decent shape, as well as the body. Not much to do, but I still figure that a good coat of paint wont hurt. |

Funny thing is that they have a Sears 19.9 in the back with my name on it if I want.
But there is another cub, a 106 that is not covered by my friends house. And there is a little mustang mower? Not sure what to do because im expecting a John Deere 110 round fender that is coming this may. |

First thing first is to have this 100 in the town parade. This will be my first restored/fixed up tractor that I have enjoyed. School will be out for three weeks, then its game on. Ive been tinkering with this since Dec.
I do have one question. Before I tore the hood off, it would encounter the steering wheel. Im assuming that there are two options, either move the hood forward or raise the steering wheel?? |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
