So how did the Harley Coil work. The early Harley dual coils are at 5 ohm impedance. Is that what the kohler one is? My coil just got a crack in the casing. Maybe the internal oil froze in the extreme cold. Engine breaks up after running g awhilei

I take it you have a KT series on there? I just got a new coil for a KT 19, on another brand of machine. The coil I bought is for a Harley application and wow does this motor start easy now...... And only after I got it I found out that I had one here All the time.. didn't need to buy one. The one I have looks brand new, I think it is supposed to be for a k482 or a k532, but it looks for all the world like many of the Harley coils that I saw pictured on ePay. The one that I bought is a Standard brand, remember the old "Blue streak" line of ignition parts, it is blue.... I'm not at home right now so I don't have the parts number in front of me. I bought that coil from ePay for like $55, looked up the part number on O'Reilly's or advance Auto website and was surprised to see that it came up there for 2x the price. Napa has it too for nearly 3x.

First off, oil doesn't "freeze". Especially oil that thin. Secondly, if it does get cold enough to cause it to turn somewhat solid, oil doesn't expand when it gets cold. Water is the only liquid (there are a few other materials that do) on earth that does this.

The Harley coil; Was it the type that looks like the Kohler (looks like a Can with Plug wires at on end ) or is it the Small Boxy looking type? https://www.jpcycles.com/product/300...ycles-12v-coil OR https://www.jpcycles.com/product/381...e-12-volt-coil

I used the Harley 5 ohm coils on a 682 and 782. They both worked great, started a lot easier, and ran smoother. Best of all, they were less than $50

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
