Default 106 - K series engine flywheel key

Do they use a special key on flywheels like tapered or rectangle key? My flywheel is cut 3/16" width, but height look like 9/32".

early k241 had 3/16" x 1/4" x 1-3/8" key with 8" dia. flywheel.

some had 3/16"sq x 1-3/8" keys.

some later k241 had 3/16" x 1"lg woodruff key (half moon)

Just curious where you got that info?

I've not ever seen a K series that had other than a 3/16" square.
I went all the way back to the 100 tractor and the early engine and don't see a rectangle key listed, but maybe I'm missing it. I also never saw a listing for them to be 1 3/8" long. I think they are 7/8"....

I know for a fact that they didn't use the woodruff key until they went to the tapped crank, and not the threaded which was during the Mag engine run, not the K series. The cranks are interchangeable though. It's just a later style.

OP: Should just be a 3/16" square key. Pretty easy to just get a key and try it if you weren't sure.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
