Default Can anyone ID this one?

I think I'm hoping for too much here. I'd like to have a 7hp gear model from the 60s or 70s. I have no idea what this is. Looks to me like the motor is turned kattywhompus (horizontal but the crank goes from side to side). I thought the hood looked old. I don't know about those vents. The asking price is $125. He says it starts but won't run and that's all I know. If I knew what it was I would know if it was worth the trip to see it.

Thanks,
Jerry

Thanks Mstetar. It is listed in Louisville KY craigslist as CubCadet Lawn Tractor . Since it isn't a Cub Cadet you've saved me a trip.

I gotta agree, offer him a hundred dollars, put the weights on epay get back $120.00 put $50.00 into that old Sears, get it going and sell it for $250.00 and make yourself $220.00 with only a few hours invested. There are people out there who collect the old Sears tractors.

That's a suburban right? They're darn good tractors. But I thought they were a dark blue?

You guys sure that is not an old MTD private label?? MTD made riding mowers in the 80's for about 55 different store brands.... I once owned a MTD made "Longlife" branded riding Mower made for Oklahoma Tire & Supply Company (aka: OTASCO). It was persimmon and white and except for the colors, looked a lot like the one in the photo as I recall... and I don't think Sears Surburbans came in 7 hp - but I'm not an expert on that subject.

obxjerry: some better photo's - like showing the front (grille) and some different angles would help a lot...

I've never heard of SS7. But the louvers on the side of the hood, and the round fenders are a dead give away. But I'm no sears expert.....I my be completely wrong!!!....(probably am. And the photo's could be better)

Sorry I posted in the wrong area. Sorry about the pictures. I used what the seller posted in the ad. It looks like somebody saw a good deal there since it's gone from Craigslist. It never occurred to me a Cub colored tractor the seller described as a Cub Cadet would not be a Cub Cadet. I need to heed to the old adage "better to keep quiet and have people wonder about your intelligence than to speak and show your stupidity".

I doubt anyone from here ran and stole it from you. If it were a cub, then definitely.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
