Had the most awesome time last night...

A guy I work with also has his own trucking company he is starting up hauling water to and from a Gas drilling well company. Last night I went with him and we started out at 10 pm. Since it's deer season they can only work till no later than 2 am. We went to get the first tanker of water and filled the truck. About 3 miles away,the tower loomed way up in the air all lit up and it had to have blinking lights on to arn air planes. I never knew the immense size of one of these rigs till last night. When we arrived at the well,we offloaded the water and picked up. As I was there,I noticed the drill steel was about 90 ft in 2 lengths pieces. We then went back for the 2nd and 3rd load and we were done hauling. It was about 1:30 am this am and when I was talking to the guy who was hoisting the drill steel up,we got to talking about drilling and I told him I had worked for a water well drilling company and drilled blast holes in quarries,he asked us to go inside the cab where the driller was. We could look out the window and see everything working and the joystick as well as computer screens and such. The driller (Tom) explained they were at 1024 ft and the weight on the bit was 45,000 lbs so far. They had to come back out to repair the bit and were now re installing the drill steel. It was so awesome. Some of the particulars are the rig costs 24,000 bucks an hour to run,less manpower, Costs 3-5 million to prep the pad and upwards of 30 million to frack it. The gas will be sent over 800 miles to New York City and the final cost will be 30-50 million.They were very cool and answered questions we had even if they thought we were idiots. I may be starting to drive a 2nd truck for my buddy and work 12 hour days on the weekends for extra money. It was just cool to be around the rig..
