682 motor options ..????
What motors will easily go in a 682 and not break the bank completely? I really like one of the members cubs here but I guess the motor was a series one and not worth having.. but the engine compartment looks huge....would a 16 hp one cyl Kohler wide base fit in there without much modding? Or is there a hot setup that is easy and inexpensive? I've seen the vanguard repowers, and really am not interested in a $2500 engine.
Or should I just wait for a nice 982 to show up on my local Craigslist instead?

I have never really understood why people go and buy brand new $1400-$2500 engines for these things. You can buy used Kohler M18s and CH18s all day for $350-$600. I've never paid more than the equivalent of about $200 for an engine...I've bought a couple of ROUGH looking tractors with decent engines, and parted them out. One was a mess of an 1862 that I got for $325...it made me money, and the Kohler M18 is in my 782. I got a beat-up 400 hour CC 2185 with CH18 Kohler V-twin for $250, and put the motor in my 582 and sold the rest for $100. Just about any under-25hp opposed or V-twin will fit. Single cylinders will fit, but you'd be better off with a twin, rather than having a single shake you to pieces.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
