If you leave the F/R operating mechanism in place (and hooked up) couldn't you adjust the friction on it to use as a damper? Possibly, but I don't know if that'd be enough. I'm not sure I'm going mess with keeping the F/R lever hooked up more than temporarily. I've been trying to find a suitable hydraulic damper, but they're all very expensive.

There is a different style of forward and reverse pedal other than rocking forward and back.I grew up on a old Massey Ferguson industial 40 backhoe that my father had. It had one pedal that looked kinda like a y it swiveled side to side.Your heal stayed in one place and you moved from one pedal to the other for forward and reverse.It was spring loaded and worked quite well.But it was throttle as well as hydro.I can get a pic of it if anyone is wants one. We dont have the tractor anymore but one of my contractors has one so it wouldnt be a problem.Ive been on lots of loaders in my life big and small and it was the only one with the throttle and the shuttle together witch made it nice because you could go from forward to reverse and never take you hands of the wheel or the lift levers..I dont know if any of this helps but it was a different way of thinking.

Well I found this in some of my grandpa's stuff. It is a Kwik-way hydrostatic foot control. I can't find any other info anywhere about it. It appears to be for narrow frames. Sorry about the size I scanned it to my computer in pdf but it was to big for the site so I changed it to a jpg. I don't know if anyone can make it larger or not but it looks pretty interesting.

Default foot control

I just found this foot control with a two inch travel at 100 pounds force max and was wondering if anyone had ever tried it on a CC hydro. I would like to use it on foward speed only with reverse still lever controled. Can anyone think of a way to have this thing push the tranny cam rearwards for forward travel but not have it interfere with reverse in the forward direction of the cam. One nice thing is that the bottom piece is rotatable 360 degrees so that it could be routed in a 180 direction for behind or in front of the tranny cam.

Exactly, and more importantly, I cant imagine an air cooled engine that runs cooler at full throttle, it sounds like an old drunken wives tale.
