Jeff K. There are several of us who have information on the IH Kind/Codes. However, I'm not sure what mysterious 1976 price list pamphlet you refer to...Please give us something to go on....

Dose this help. I'm not sure how to make it bigger. It has (code 6) for $ 567.00 or (code24) for 649.00 after the 55.The 85 special has (code 23) for $798.00 and (code 26) for $899.00. I don't no what the dif is.

Jeff K:

Those are Factory Codes for the model and configuration.

I can't read your Price List, but the codes you cited are:

Code 6 = Cadet Model 55
Code 23 = Cadet Model 85
Code 24 = Cadet Model 55 with Recoil Start
Code 26 = Cadet Model 85 with Electric Start

Note: Remember, there's a difference between a "wind the rope around a pulley" pull start and a Recoil start ( the difference in a Code 6 and a Code 24). Code 28 is a Cadet 55 with Electric Start...

If you email me that Price List, I'll be able to read it.

Jeff K & others: Some research reveals that all IH RER manual starts were the recoil type. The brochure you posted is a Showroom sales brochure IH made available to Dealers to aid salesmen and customers and is not an accurate reflection of or about code distinctions.

I have sent you an extract of the official IH Price List, PL-45, Revision 31, dated 6-12-78 (an internal company document not available to the public) showing all the RER models (after the Model 60 - it has it's own PL) with their Factory Codes and the differences between the codes...

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
