Default 1450 Grill/ hood extension

I replaced my grill , hood extension a few years with a used one and now it's broken again. I don't remember hitting anything but believe it broke due to vibration. Is there an alternative for replacement or should I just find another used one or......? I tried welding the last one with no luck. I'm considering making a new one from angle iron but my fabrication skills may not be up to the task.

But that won't look right. They are different styles.

You are talking about the cast piece that holds the headlights correct? If so, how can you make one out of angle iron? That doesn't even make sense.

Also, if that is the part you are referring to, are you buying/replacing with the cast iron one? Or the aluminum one? Early ones were CI, the late ones Al. No way you are breaking a cast iron one from vibration. Even an aluminum one, that would be hard to believe. Now, stripping the bolts out of one from vibration.... that I can believe. But if it's cast iron and you are breaking it, you either need glasses so as not to hit things, or you are drinking while mowing your grass. The CI ones are HEAVY.

If that is not the part in question..... to what are you referring?

"you are drinking while mowing your grass. "

What fun is mowing grass without a beer or six. My Simplicity only has one beer holder...damn! I have not run into anything yet.

I have several Quietlines and wide frames in my collection. Some are used for weekly chores and I have never had a problem with the cast front pieces breaking. The hinges, however, can fatigue and break. Replacing a hood hinge is relatively cheap and easy.

LOL. Didn't say anything was wrong with it.....

That is UNLESS you are running into things while doing it!

I have been known to drink beer and mow... but like you, I have yet to hit anything because of it!

Item 8 in the parts tree image is the part I'm referring to. The original one and the one I replaced were both die cast or aluminum. If there is a cast iron part available could you please let me know where I could buy one?
In regards to the glasses, yes I do wear them and they are new so I don't think that's the issue.
As to the beer, if you have used a 1450 you should know there is no cup holder and the vibration is so much the beer would be flat before you could finish drinking it.

Jonathan, part #8 is the upper grill for the headlights...not the lower potion. I have never heard of a cast iron upper grill. Cast iron lower grills are available from many sources.

You are correct. My mistake. Too small a screen to not have my glasses.

If you go to the Cub Cadet parts search site....

http://www.cubcadet-parts-direct.com...odX5EFLA#Error

and look and search for IH-61294-C1, then click select model, you will get a whole list of models from 86 to 1650. But if you look at each of them you will see that the Quietline models do not have the divider between the headlights and all the other models do. The quietlines all have the the plastic IH logo in the center. I guess it depends on how "politically correct" you want to be but if the extension with the divider cures your ill, take the pill.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
