Default 60 inch haben deck spindle asy.

Can the center spindle be bought as an assembly or does one have to buy each part separate? For a 2284, 60 inch Haben deck. Looking at replacing double center pulley and complete asy. Take one off and bolt the new one on.

Don't know, look it up on Cub Cadet and see if it is still available as a unit. If not, IHCCW gets in stuff like that every so often. I have heard a few items for the Habans are getting harder to find. Whats wrong with yours? Should be re-buildable.

They are very easy to rebuild. What's wrong with the old one?

Considering just the shaft is in the $150 neighborhood, I don't want to know what they would get for the whole assembly.

It is throwing sparks and slipping, but I haven't taken it off to see what all is damaged. The pulley is worn and all the rest of them are too. I have been considering replacing all the deck drive pulleys. At 150 for the shaft I guess I should rebuild it.

Stop right there!!!

Before even making a post, you should at the very least look at the machine to see what is wrong with it. For all you know, the belt is loose because it is worn, and something is rubbing a pulley throwing sparks. May not even have any bad parts..... except maybe a broken spring and a worn belt.

Like others have said... see what is wrong... you may only need a few bearings or a spring.. The bearings are super cheap and super easy to replace in those spindles.. shafts and pulleys do bring big prices.. Patton Acres usually has some Haban parts and complete spindles if you need anything

Sounds like the upper pulley has come loose from the spindle.
That's what the issue was with my Haban a year ago.
IIRC, there were only 3 spot welds holding it to the blade spindle.
Simple fix, just re-weld it, that is if it's not so far gone as to waller out the hole in the spindle rendering it junk!
Ya better have a close look before it's too late to do anything BUT replace it!

Its going to need both pulleys, shaft, key, bearings, haven't gotten the assembly off but housing looks ok at this point. With all respect, I know enough to know at a quick glance, more than some would with it tore down. I'm a rebuild man by trade, not yer normal. I'm tired and hurt. It would be the best job to just set the whole thing brand new on it and my 2284 cub would be super and just maybe that part would hold up till i die and somebody else could fix it again.

Does anyone sell an aftermarket assembly or does one have to buy it 1 part at a time and rebuild it. That is my original question?

I have never seen any aftermarket parts for the Haban 60" deck other than blades and wheels.. I don't think they ever offered a spindle as an assy either but I may be wrong on that.. The stuff that is still available thru Cub Cadet is usually very pricey.. I would suggest you hunt what you need used either on epay or through some of the sponsors at the top of the page.. Patton Acres had several items that I needed for my Haban several years ago

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
