Thanks for the kind words everyone, it is pretty crazy. I never thought someone would take it from the shop. We live in a town of about 600 people and there have been several garages broken into lately. The shop has mowers sitting out all the time, and never has a problem.

I talked to my insurance guy (wife's uncle) and he said the shop owner has insurance against break ins, so if he left it outside, his insurance wouldn't cover it.

Terry C, I'm about 10 miles north of Cedar Rapids. Now that I'm starting with a clean slate, I probably won't go after another 1200. I'm looking for 1450, 1650 or 782, 792.

I would check the scrap yards around the area, they probably won't tell you anything over the phone, you'll have to go visit them.

Exactly, I'd go snoop around for as long as possible before talking to anyone, people instantly get pissy when you mention your looking for a stolen item. We had an employee not show up one day, that's when we noticed all the cameras we use to document our work were missing. I went over to the local pawn shop to see if they had them, once I looked at all the cameras on the shelf I asked the guy if he had anymore and explained the situation. He about popped a gasket he got so mad, told me "how dare you accuse me of buying stolen items" I explained that I wasn't accusing him of anything but he didn't want to hear it. According to him he "can read it on people's faces if there selling him stolen items", my response to that was "whatever a$$hole" and then I walked out.

Sorry to hear about your 1200 gone missing. I hope you get it back!

Didn't someone post a few years back that his machine was mistakenly picked up by wrong person or delivered to wrong place a few years back? I don't think it was a Cub Cadet but I seem to recall it was a zero turn. My point is maybe a mistake happened.

Why don't you go fishing? Place a want ad for an older Cub, that doesn't have to be perfect but running or fixable, with or without a mowing deck. Don't know that I'd get real specific about the model, maybe say no Supers, prefer an older IH built machine. Run it on multiple CL sites near you.

The repair shop has insurance against this. Have they filed a claim yet? Not sure what it's worth and the shop may end up paying you directly for the value since it may not be worth the claim, but I'd think they would be working with you on it.

I'll keep an eye out in my area for any 1200's that come up for sale. I'm over by DeWitt, so probably 40-50 miles East of you. Some low life POS needs a job. Hopefully they'll slip up and you'll find it.

Yes, John I was planning on trying that.

Thanks red56turbo, I appreciate it.

I would hope it doesn't end up in the scrap yard. It was a nice running machine.

File in Small Claims Court. They had it and they are responsible for it. Same if someone brings their tractor to my house for me to fix. I am responsible for taking care of it while it is here. Their insurance may not cover it, but they are still responsible for the loss.

Also, if you want to post the S/N, we can keep on the lookout.

I 100% agree that the shop should pay you for your tractor, it was in there possession and is there responsibility.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
