My Son picked up a 782 twin stick

When it was very cold a few weeks ago, my son snagged a 782 with dual hydraulics and a cast iron rear end. He is very excited!

He only gave $140 for it. Its pretty clean, not all beat up. I would say it has spent most of its life in the garage. They guy said he left it outside this last summer when it wouldn't start. Oh, and he got the manual with it as well.

The tractor was frozen to the ground and his friend that helped him get it busted the steering getting it loaded on the trailer. It turned out to be the adjustment bolt, snapped it right in half. I had a parts steering box that we use d to repair it.

Next is to get it running. It has the KT 17 series II with about 650 hours if I read the gauge right.

Also, anybody know if I can use an ignition switch from a 2182 in place of the 782 switch? They look identical except the 2182 switch has an extra pole on it.

Can't help with the switch but nice rig. I have an early yellow/white twin stick 782 that I really like. Power angle plow is great in winter.

You actually have a 784, just like the one I have. They are kinda rare to find.

This would indicate that the Chassis Serial Number is <719,999.

Cub Cadet did not start putting KT-17 Series II until serial number 726,125>.

None the less, it is definitely a fixer-upper or complete restoration.

You need the proper switch for it, the 2182 switch wont work.

Just off the top of my forgetful head, the series 2 has a points ignition,so you need power to the coil during cranking and running and no power to stop
the engine.
looking up the 2182, it says it gotts a ka bow tee 3 cyl gas 'ingin.
so it is possibly a non points ignition???
that would require a ground terminal to stop it, thus the extra switch terminal.
I would guess that switch is not going to do what you want.
Now if your curious you could look up the wiring diagram for both and follow it to see if there is continuity in the various positions that you need, but I doubt it
the 782 has off,on with lights, on, and start positions.
prolly best to suck it up and buy the correct switch.
Now be warned, there a ppl selling switches that they say will cross reference
and work but they don't.BTDT buy the right switch by part number.
Story time:
Some years back I decided I was going to make a switch from multiple switch parts in my junk pile that would kill the mag ignition on a M-18 without using a relay in my 782,
and retain the factory positions with lights as I mentioned earlier.
Well it took me a day but i did it and it is still working 10 years later.
but that is me and my OCD determination. Ha,LOL
Go to cub cadet or partstree and look up the correct switch number you need.

Roland, the serial number is 708103 and the gentleman indicated the tractor had been in the family since new. The motor says series II on it, but i know that doesn't mean anything for sure. I will try and get a pic of the engine tag. We have a 18 mag we can put in it if the motor ends up having issues.

I am not very up on 82 series tractors, so I didn't even know about the 784. I did just google it while writing this and see some info from Myron Bounds about it. I just couldn't read it after saving it.

399 = For IH dealers in IH Red
