Chainsaw help and info.
My parents neighbor had me take this out of his shed, it was there when he bought the house over 30yrs ago and he's never even tried to start it. It's a Clinton model D50, from the little bit of research I've done it was made in 59. It appears to be complete minus an air cleaner, I gave it a good soak with degreaser to clean it up. If I can get it to run what kind of value does it have? I assume the carb will need rebuilt, where's the best place to find parts?

Curiosity got the better of me so I gave the carb a small shot of brake cleaner and pulled the cord twice and it fired right up and ran for 4 or 5 seconds, I don't have any two stroke gas at the shop so I will take it home tonight to see if it will run on gas.

I've only got One Clinton, a little different from yours.
First a few old chainsaw basics--Most of the OLD saws are loud--really loud. A lot, including my Clinton only have an exhaust trumpet--no muffler. Do yourself a favor and don't try to crank it indoors--ask me how I know. Most older saws ran a 1/2 pt of 30w oil to the gallon of gas. I'm not going to debate modern oils, do as you wish for oil/gas ratio----most old saws had a decal on the tank or cast the ratio in the cap. If I had to guess you have round pancake looking tillotson carb. Parts may be available. Sometimes diaphragms get to the point they can't flex well enough to pump. I have heard of briefly soaking in brake fluid, but it may attack the material--proceed with caution. Interesting info here. http://www.acresinternet.com/cscc.nsf possible supplier for carb parts--call them http://www.vepetersen.com/ If you get really interested in old saws, look up a Strunk--made in Coatesville, PA I think. I have 2--one blends its own oil/gas

Tim,
I have 3 Clinton parts manuals and the closest I can find is a D35. Let me know if you need a copy of it.

Thanks for the info. I did put gas in the tank but can't get it to run so I guess the carb needs to come apart, haven't had time to mess with it beyond that.

The diaphragm may get flexible after it soaks in gas for a few days. Some of those old saws use a metal fuel filter, kind of a laminate or perforated bronze looking setup.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
