Default Cyclops plastic painting/finishing

I know someone out there has figured out a good method or type of paint to get the plastic back to a deceit looking finish. starting on Rescue11's 1864, and trying to figure out what to do about his plastic. it's all in good condition but just plain ugly..... is there a buffing process or painting or WHAT????

if you want to try buffing it i suggest wet sanding it with 2000 grit and then using a buffer on it, it may or may not work depending on the condition of the plastic. if you want to paint it i suggest scuffing it with a red scuff pad and then wash it with hot water and dawn dish soap, this will help remove the mold release agent thats in the plastic and is the reason its so hard to get paint to stick. once its washed use an adhesion promoter( heres what i use with excellent results http://www.amazon.com/Kleanstrip-ETP...esion+promoter) and follow it up with your paint of choice.

I use Bulldog adhesion promoter on all jobs I do. So many car and truck parts are plastic now, you have too.

Buffing with a heavy cutting compound and following up with lighter polishing compound yields excellent results. The more steps you use the better it will look..

There is a very good post on here from member ccguy about restoring the plastic.. His 1440 looks like new.

The plastic on my 1782 was solid but ugly.. It was dull and discolored.
20 min with several different compounds, a foam pad and a buffer have the hood looking like new!

good luck with it

I just did a set of side panels and a hood.
Step 1. Brillo or S.O.S pad
Step 2. Maguires # 49 Marine/RV oxidation remover
Step 3. Maguires # 45 Marine/RV polish
Step 4. Maguires # 56 Marine/RV wax

All three maguires products come together in a kit. I use a high speed rotary buffer for # 49, and 45. Wax is done by hand.

They come out looking new.

There are several ways to restore the plastic..

CCGUY did a really good job on a 1440 several years ago..

He outlines his procedure in post 23 of this thread

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
