Transmission trouble
I had mentioned in another thread I rebuilt the transmission in my truck and after getting it all back together, the pump never primed. Several of you guys wanted to know the outcome. Here is what I found.
Just to recap, this is a 4L80E in a 1991 Chevrolet K2500 with a 350. Yes, I like Chevrolet trucks, and I bought this one 18 months ago, and it was exactly what I was looking for. For the record, I also like Dodge diesels, but I sold both the ones I had and went back to a gas Chevy. Anyway, it wasn't my fault. Pump was together right. New reman pump..... but it wasn't machined right I don't think. Pump ring gear is stuck, and it shattered the center gear. Someone owes me a pump and a converter, and maybe an input shaft. I'll call them tomorrow. You can't really see it, but in the last pic the ring gear is cracked. 20180627_160508.jpg 20180627_155115.jpg 20180627_160519.jpg |

4L80E's pump gears use to be notorious for TQ's being difficult to seat..Sure you were not a little rough trying to seat that TQ? Never seen a new gear crack like that...

You're not the only one having issues. I painted a whole car on Monday and it came out beautiful with the exception of a funky spot in the hood, Tuesday comes and I sand the hood down and paint it again and it somehow looked worse than the first time. Today I come in and sand the hood down again and start painting but this time the paint I was spraying started to wrinkle the paint from yesterday. . I stripped the hood and primed it and baked the primer so it would dry faster, I then wetsanded it and am now currently still at work painting this hood. I talked to the tech rep from ppg and was basically told this color is a huge pain and getting it to look right is more a matter of luck then skill, I guess they get calls about this color frequently.

It does suck Sam!
Yeah Todd, reman pump no good. This company has issues with the machine tolerances of this pump. When I was putting it together, I thought it was too tight, but put it in anyway. Should have trusted my gut. Every time I don't listen to my gut, it bites me in the ass! Yeah Steve, some $$ for my time would be nice, but I'm not holding my breath. If it was a paying job, they would likely reimburse the labor.... we'll see. Tim, I know the feeling bud. I still hate painting. That's why I'm not a body guy. Not that I can't, I just never enjoyed it. I'm confident you'll get it. Coop.... yes, I'm sure I didn't get too ruff on the T/C. Not my first rebuild. As I mentioned before, this isn't the first pump from WIT that has done this.... and I suspected it wasn't right from the beginning. |

Wait, You tried to repaint over clear from the day before? Was this 2k paint? Dry enough or not... Can't paint over clear. But you said you sanded back down so clear should have either been dry enough or if not sanded off. If you painted and had a problem with 2k the time to fix was before clear went down. If it was the clear you had an issue with most clear issues can be fixed on first cut in with the wheel.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
