Lift rod will clear fine, at least on a QA-36A/B/42A. The arms that go between the blower housing and the frame need to have the bend in them, though, or they will hit the front tinwork.

Hopefully you can see what I mean in this video.... Video

I'm sure he really appreciated you fixing it AND showing him that you've cared for something that meant a lot to him thru the years.

Got it today and tested it out. It's very well made, and it's VERY close to the frame on a 782 but it works. I used a few washers to space it out. All the snow melted today but I tested it out on a dirt pile. Just threw some primer on it, I'll hit it with some IH white tomorrow. Thanks again.

I'm wondering if this is common. I can run the 782 all day it seems with the headlights off, and it will start back up even after sitting for a week. If I run it with the headlights on at night, it will not restart without a charger on it. Battery is new, does it sound like the charging system is weak? I'm an automotive guy, so I'm familiar with alternators, but I never messed with small engines besides basics. I looked through the manuals on this site but I can't find a charging system troubleshooting guide.

If running with lights on, the rpm's have to be high enough to show a + on the ammeter or you will eventually deplete the battery charge.
If you are running full rpms and not showing a + charge, it needs to be investigated.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
