Default M18S vs MV18S parts

I'm working on a refresh, on a budget. I need help cross referencing part numbers. I brought my jugs/valves/pistons to a machine shop. Jugs/seats are good, but the valves are bad. They said they are getting too thin at the top. Finding valves seem like they are expensive, hard to find, or I might end up with used valves in the same condition. I found some used jugs/valves and pistons on eBay. The guy selling them said he owns a machine shop and the valves/seats have been ground/lapped, and that everything is within spec and in good shape. The Pistons look like they are in decent shape from the photos. He said they came out of a 1710 with an mv18s, spec# 58520, serial number 1830705036.

My m18s has spec# 24506, serial number 1635600436. Does anyone know if his jugs/pistons will work in my 1811 with an m18s?

Thanks,

Gabe

Go to kohler and compare part numbers for the valves and pistons of those two engines. If they are the same...then you have your answer.

Unless Cub made two 1710's (pretty certain they didn't) then the engine out of the 1710 isn't an MV. The V stands for Vertical Shaft, which a 1710 would not have. Seller is mistaken about the engine model.

If you want used parts, that's your risk. Go look up and compare parts on your own. You can do that on Kohlers website by engine number.

1710 used horizontal crankshaft...1715, 1720 IIRC had a vertical crankshaft as the latter were lawn tractors.

Well guys, I learned a little bit about the correct way to look up kohler parts, thank you! My bad for posting when the answer was pretty obvious. I did go to Kohler the other day, but apparently I was looking in the wrong spot on their web site. I also wasn't sure that the engine was matching the cub in the sellers add. Anyways, I think I'll roll the dice on some used Kohler parts. Can't wait to get this old twin cylinder fired up, hopefully it all goes well! Thanks again you guys!

Also, on a side note. There were a bunch of cubs on display this year at the Minnesota State Fair. I don't go to the fair every year, but I hadn't seen that yet. Pretty nice collection! "Machinery Hill" isn't what is used to be with the decline in agriculture and new machinery being made to order. It used to be packed with all kinds of tractors. There's still some nice collector exhibits, my favorite part of the fair. They're saying machinery hill is slated for new development with a high tech kids center and concert area. Kinda sad when you think about it.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
