Larry, my 2185 is serial number 322750. Not sure if it close enough to yours to the be same but it is close by if you want to take a look.

One of the yellow wires on my seat switch is disconnected. I have not looked at the wiring diagram yet but that looked odd.

Thanks Greg I think I have it about figured out, PTO switch is bad, and may have to replace or rebuild the PTO.

At times I just jiggled the pto switch and it would engage the clutch. The wires coming out of the pto clutch on my 2166 are red (+) & blue (-) . You may have done this but when my pto would intermittently engage I disconnected the blue (-) wire in harness going into the clutch and ran it straight to ground and discovered the pto clutch would engage and blades turned verifying it was loosing ground somewhere in the circuit. In haste I hooked up the blue wire to a long jumper wire and hooked it to one side of a heavy duty push/pull switch then ran the other side of the switch to ground, in effect bypassing the pto switch so I could finish mowing until I have time to trace down the wiring gremlin culprit. Unless mistaken on Cubs all the safety switches run thru the pto switch and can be a nightmare to diagnose. I bought my Cub new 14 yrs. ago and the only safety switch that is still intact is the brake switch. Good luck.

Default Working on it

A member here sent me a really good PDF that shows the color of the wiring. I have been able to trace all the wires to find the safety switches . As I figured all of them have been bypassed by the PO. The tractor starts and runs great but the PTO would not engage. I rigged up a jumper to bypass the PTO switch and it engages and works.
So I pulled the PTO switch, ran a continuity test and it showed the switch was bad. I still need to test the PTO to ascertain if it isn't shorting out as I have ordered a new switch and don't want to ruin it.

Any help as to how to test the PTO for a short would be appreciated.

Ok now that I have the wiring good to go. I pulled the rear fender pan and pressure sprayed the tractor and found that a right side wheel seal was leaking, so gonna have to pull the rear and replace that, while I have it down I will replace both of them. Also I will check the bearing to see they are ok. But if not can any one direct me to a cross reference to the cc part numbers Oil seal #921-3020a, Bearing #941-3033a. I know I can order them form Cub cadet parts or from Parts Tree, But I would rather buy from a local parts store if possible.

If you have a local NAPA they should be able to assist you. Our local NAPA store supplied me with the correct tie rod ends and saved me quiet a bit, they also supplied the HD Push/Pull pto switch for my CC 2166.

Just a suggestion: If that rear is the same as the 2072-2084 etc. you may want to consider drilling the drain holes back that Sam Mac showed when he did his. Our 2072 was nearly full of water when we opened it up.

They are different Paul and that mod is not needed on the 2 & 3k machines.
