374 Haban deck rebuild

Going to get started on the deck which came with the 2182 that was supposed to be for parts. It has some wallowed out castor wheel pin holes and a section of baffle is missing underneath. This will be a painfully slow process. I did spend some time yesterday on the center bearing cup. Cleaned the threads on the mounting bolts. Then discovered the bottom pulley has some rust build up. Hoping it cleans up well. I was able to chip some out with hammer and punch. Any suggestions for a better method?

Chip out the heavy stuff then use a right angle grinder. The grinder will spin the pulley as you clean it. Worked for me your results may vary. Make sure you have eye protection.

I'd use a knotted wire wheel in a bench grinder or angle grinder. Like Sam said, it will spin the pulley and cover you in chunks of rusty steel.

I use a lathe
But if I don't /can't use the lathe I use a right angle grinder with a flap type wheel.

So I stripped this deck last spring. I was able to get the side spindle covers painted. I had help from my brother welding up the two deck lift sections and I splashed them with paint. Then I lost my shop space for various reasons. One third of the baffle is missing. Bought a piece of steel to shape in its place.

...then they were hung in the basement ceiling with care.......last April.

The castors and caster/deck mounting plate holes are a mess. I am no welder so this project just completely stalled.

Here is a shot of the missing baffle. The front edge of the deck is very thin. You can see a split in the center behind the front roller. It became overwhelming for me so I just put it on the back burner. I debated hiring the welding repair of all the deck issues but it seemed very cost prohibitive.

So one day I was searching the website of one of the sponsors- Patton Acres. I found one solution to my problem for this project. After discussing it with the wife (more than once) I took action.

Yes. This is a NOS Haban 374 deck complete with lift and mule drive (not in picture). The idler pulley and front roller were robbed at one point but everything else including belts is there. I have to tell you, the Indian Jones in me keeps saying, "It belongs in a museum."
