Thoughts on a 42" hydraulic tiller
I really want to get a tiller mounted on the super this year and I don't have a rear PTO. I see a lot of these hydraulic tiller around and I would like to fab one up to work on the super. Link below.
http://cnj.craigslist.org/grd/4861219447.html My thought is I can make the brackets to make it work on a cat 0 3 pt. and mount the pump on a mule drive. Has anybody used a similar tiller? Wondering how well they work.

Looks like a good idea to me. Cub also has a HYD tiller for the later tractors.

I don't recall ever seen a Cub hydraulic tiller for sale. Maybe I haven't looked hard enough. Hope to get this project underway in a month or so. I need to have a tiller ready to go by this spring.

I would do that, but I don't have a rear PTO. Wish I did.

I saw a picture of a hydraulic tiller for a green garden tractor a few days ago, so it is possible.
Keeping the hydraulic oil cool seems like it could be a challenge.

Ok, so I have been wondering about that for a while as well. How do they cool the oil on these hydraulic self contained tillers? Do they just figure on a guy using them for a half hour or so and callling it a day?

They do hold 4.5 gallons of oil so maybe that helps the heat from building.

Here is a pic of my hydraulic tiller. It mounts on a sleeve hitch. It would be a great starting point if you wanted to make a setup for your Cub. Make a mount for a pump off the front Pto and a bracket can be made to hold the oil resivuar on the front of the tractor to double for front weight to help offset the rear weight of the tiller. These tillers can be found for reasonable prices.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
