Deck spindles

When I restored my 108 I did a 48" deck for it and rebuilt the spindles with all new bearings and seals, I now want to do a 44" deck for it and was wondering if the rebuilt spindles out of the 48" will fit in the 44"? They both seem to have the same 3 bolt pattern but since the 48" spindles are tall I wasn't sure if there to tall for a 44" deck, I would just compare the 2 myself but the 48" is in storage and the 44" has about 2ft of snow on it. Just trying to plan ahead for spring.

the 48in spindles are too long for the 44in. deck,if I remember they are approx.,3/4in longer so would stick below the deck.

Not what I wanted to here but thanks for the info, so does that mean spindles from a 42" or 38" will fit? All my 44" decks have no rebuild able spindles so I really want to switch to cast spindles that I can rebuild.

Find the part number for the spindles you want interchange info on.
Looks like IH-481093-R1 for the 48"

Then, get on the Cub Parts look up site and enter the number where indicated.
It will then tell you where/what that part is used on.

Looks to me like Ya are screwed on this as it only comes up as fitting '63-'68 and '68-'71 model 48" decks.

The 44 "and 50" deck use IH-ST721 which has been super ceded by #759-3479 & 959-3479

No that's not me. In doubt looking it up will help since I'm trying to replace stamped steel spindles with cast iron ones, this will most likely have to come from the knowledge of the forum members.

Looks like the 32-38" decks use IH-473436-R93
In the parts look up, that is the only one I have found that has a parts breakdown of the spindle ass'ly
I'm probably gonna be in the same boat here when it comes time to get serious about the decks on these rigs!

I think the issue with using those will be the pulleys on a 44 a ,you may have to use the ones on the deck your taking them from.

I seem to recall Sam Mac saying that spindles from a newer 2000 series cub will swap in place of the 44a spindles. Maybe he will chime in and let me know if I misunderstood. My 44a spindles have seen better days, was going to contact him at some point to clarify.

Here's the deal, the housing is pretty much the same but the shaft is about 3/4" longer. It has a spacer between the blade and the bottom of the housing. Quick and dirty way is to put the blade on first then the spacer and then the nut. Fancy way is to shorten the shaft. The pic is the spindle from a 46" deck for a 2165.
