Let's hear more about the Monte. I've got an '88 SS here, and a 383 with AFR heads and a roller cam sitting on the hoist. It needs EFI bad.

You're right, its overkill. Kinda thinking I might look for a Super Garden Tractor to replace, would like something with power steering & 3pth hitch.

18HP kit for a 682, $1400.00 with a 3 year warranty.
http://www.smallenginewarehouse.com/...tegory=1709370 Just my 2 cents but I have a 1641 with a 48" GT deck and the 16 has plenty of power. I'd guess that the 18 is over kill and anything over that is a waste of cash. Your wallet, your tractor do as you wish. I have nothing else to offer on this thread. Be Happy, Happy, Happy.

Will either of these be an "easy" swap into my 682? First has a tapered shaft, which I thing mine needs straight, & second has a 1.125" dia shaft & think mine needs 1.25...?
Thanks http://www.ebay.com/itm/KOHLER-ENGIN...YAAOSwLzdWSnD9 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Kohler-Comma...IAAOSw~bFWLoFk |

First engine won't play with the tapered shaft. Second engine should work. Your existing engine should have a 1-1/8" shaft.

Yep sure will. Hot set up would be to use the 1863 motor plate, muffler and drive shaft. It would be a bolt in swap. Jeff in PA can hook you up with a pump adapter for the 1863 CV shaft. That said I think the price is a little high.

Thanks for the reply. What do you think a good price would be? I take it the 1863 came with this motor?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
