Default Dozer blade lift rod

Can anyone tell me the dimensions of the lift rod used on the IH 42" or 54" blade? I picked one up for my 1650, but it didn't have the rod. I assume the diameter is 1/4". Thanks.

The easiest way to get a Lift Rod is to make your own.

Study this diagram.

Place the tractor as indicated, measure the distance between Point A & B.
Fabricate the rod from 1/2" round rod and away you go.

Bend a 90 in the appropriate locations (A & B), drill a hole for a cotter pin and that would do it? It seems so easy that even I could do it!

MFP8055,
Here are a few pictures of mine. Somtimes it helps to see what someone else has:biggrin2.gif:
This came with the blade i have, It looks to be home made but it works fine.
Like the others said it is made from 1/2" round stock. Mine has a bend in the long part of it. I did that to shorten it up. When i first put it on it would barely lift the blade enough to clear the ground.

Dont forget to rotate or remove the stop so you get full travel of your hydraulics. Unless you need it to fine tune your gradeing.

I would have re-bent the ends on that instead of bending it in the middle. Guess where it's going to buckle when you put down pressure on the blade or hit a rock. Bending it like that really decreases its resistance to buckling. The 'cyclops' tractors' lift rod has a bend in it, but it is much shallower and the lift rod itself is 5/8" IIRC.

Thanks for all the help. Could someone put a tape measure on that rod and let me know what the pin-to-pin length should be? I could measure the distance myself, but the tractor and plow blade are in pieces getting ready for painting. I'm just trying to get some of the other small jobs (like fabricating a lift rod) taken care of between stripping sheet metal and priming. It's going to snow up here any day now!

I dug up a section of 1/2" bar stock to make my lift rod out of. Although I could wait until I finished the tractor before making the final bend in the rod, I'd really like to know what the factory length is for it. My reason is that I'm sure the fine engineers at IH chose a length that wouldn't allow a used to dig too deep when dozing and damage the tractor. The rod looks like something around 4'. A pin to pin length would allow me to get the implement installed as per factory spec. Thanks.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
