Steering Wheel Removal
Hi guys, I have been trying to get the steering wheel off my 128 with no luck. I removed the nut and soaked with PB blaster for a few days. Put nut back on leaving about 3 threads left. Did the knees under the steering wheel thing and using my air hammer. Also tried hitting the nut with a hammer squarely only to ruin some of the threads on the steering shaft. Lastly I tried using my puller. All these with no success. Any other ideas of things I could try? Any help is appreciated.

I had the same problem on my 169, I tried everything. The thing that finally worked was to put the nut back on and tighten it down very tight, breaking the hold between the wheel and shaft. Then it came right off with my puller.

Your right Lew, Mr. Sawzall and the torches. I have never had this much problem with anything on a Cub until this steering wheel. The shaft is ruined. Apparently someone marred up the splines really bad at one time and looks like they hammered on the steering wheel

I'm having the same problem with my 147. I finally managed to break the nut completely off using a 'small' amount of impact. Now I need another shaft...when I get this one off.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
