Default D600 vs D640 Glow Plugs

I have another thread on this, but I decided to post one here, for future reference, and for more help, possibly.

I am replacing the glow plugs on my 1782 before snow, and all of the pairs that I can find for sale (Ebay, Extreme, etc) are titled to fit a D600. My question is, did the D640 use any different plugs than the D600?

they are different Part numbers but I'm not sure how different they are.
The ones that were in my 1782 are NGK y103v $8 each. I ordered some Kubota ones that were Kubota part number 15694-6551-3 and NGK# Y-702R $18 each
I should have just got the $8 ones.

I just installed NGK y103v in my 1572 which has a D600. I bought these off of ebay, and they were labelled as "improved" glow plug for D600. I asked the seller what was improved, and was told that they are hotter. They do work better than what was in there before. I have also checked the glow plug relay install threads (where the glow plugs will get full 12V), and they also call for a NGK y103v. I don't have mine installed with the relay, but may consider it some day. I did install the gear reduction starter, and felt this was a necessary upgrade for starting.

I don't think I would run the new plugs through the key because it may damage it. That is why the solenoid is needed. The old system used the dash heater/indicator in series with the original plugs to limit the current because all of it goes through the key switch. With both the plug and starter upgrade it will start a lot faster then stock...a lot. I put the gp upgrade on my 1572 but not the starter because it didn't fail yet and it is still kind of hard to start. The 882 has both and I can hit the plugs for 10 seconds and it will start quick.

I checked the resistance of the old plugs vs the new. There was no measurable difference. I left the indicator in series (which is the major resistance in that entire circuit). So I know I am not putting any more current through the circuit with the Y103V glow plugs.

I agree, the starter upgrade is the real answer to a hard starting cubota.

Sorry, I was thinking you removed the indicator. I took mine out and put in a LED that is powered off the last gp. That will tell you if you are getting power to the plugs.

Yes, that is exactly what I will do when (if) I install the relay and bypass the indicator.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
