Well, I guess this is a good spot to make an announcement.
Guys, I changed jobs last week. I still have my shop and still do some work, some work.... by appointment only. I got hired on by Republic Services to manage two shops for them. I'm now over a fleet of about 60 vehicles (trucks, pup trailers and pickups). The job is intense but I'm enjoying it. After 13 years of running a business it's a little different. It's a completely different stress load in that it's mine to manage, but it's not MINE. I get paid no matter what. No money to collect, no line of customers, just one company to keep happy. I enjoy the fact that I spend most of the day in an office in front of a PC and on the phone. I go out and help my guys, but I don't even have a toolbox in the building, (in other words I'm not expected to wrench). That's how it's supposed to be in life.... work hard so that someday you get paid well for what you now know but don't have to work so hard. (At least not physically. My brain is on overload. ) |

Congrats on the new job, Jonathan.
Used to bend wrenches 'til I blew out a rotator cuff, never went back to it after surgery. Stayed home with both kids until they were old enough for school, did a few jobs in my own shop. Now I run an old school parts store, with nuts and bolts in bins and drawers and drawers of Dorman stuff. I have all the weird stuff the big guys won't carry. Paint, sandpaper, truck lights, hydraulic fittings, brass fittings, and make AC and hydraulic hoses. Bearings on the shelf to fit just about anything. Walk into any of the parts stores around town with a part in your hand, and they send you to my store. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
