Question on K301 crankshaft
hey guys I had a question for you- now that I've got my 105 up and running well, I decided I've got 2hp-itis and I'm sourcing all the parts to build up a K301 in my spare time for when my original K241 needs rebuilding.
The question I have is about the crank. I can find a hand full of john deere 210/212 cranks, cub cadet 1250 cranks, etc, on ebay but I'm not sure if what I'm looking at is a correct match for what I need. I do know the IH part number, but obviously they're no longer manufactured so that doesn't help a ton. could somebody take a look- is this what I need for a crank? https://www.ebay.com/itm/John-Deere-....c100033.m2042 thanks |

No, it is not.
Do you have a K301 motor? If not, go buy a complete engine. If so, what's wrong with the crank in it? |

I was hoping you'd come around Mech. No, I didn't buy a complete motor, I've been grabbing pieces here and there to rebuild and assemble one. So far I have everything except the crank and a rebuild kit, so not too far to go.

Far easier to have gotten all the parts in one purchase. Cheaper too.

For the existing stock out there... I'm going to have to respectfully disagree. Guys want $400-500 dollars for a running K301 out there, I'd rather rebuilt my own and know it was done to the best of my ability.
Outside of that, what specific crank am I looking for? I know I need 1" shaft diameter, but what length? |

If you are planning on rebuilding it, why would you look for and buy a running engine? Complete engines that don't run (broken rod) sell for less than $200. Ive bought 8 or 10 at once for $150. So, disagree all you want. Just because you couldn't find what you need doesn’t mean it doesn't exist. Just means you didn't look hard or long enough.
Same length as the 10hp. 3" |

What's wrong with a crank for a 1250? It will work. You said you can find them....

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
