I call bs on that.
I've done this before looking for an AC voltage leak. It's normal for a meter to pick up a fluctuating AC voltage, but not a constant one. You put the meter on the battery on AC volts, and it may sit there and roll around some numbers..... but it typically won't show a constant AC voltage. I've also seen instances where the meter would hold like .5 AC volts or under. Again, that is normal. Most service manuals give an allowable limit. 24, 25, 26 volts?!?? NO. But, I'm still not convinced. That is a huge amount, and should be causing major issues. I've seen AC voltage leaks under 2/3 volts burn up ignition systems.

I know and understand how a rectifier works, and I get what is being said.... but he shouldn't be getting a reading that high, unless 1.) There is a major issue, or 2.) His meter is junk. I'm leaning toward 2....

To the OP: again, check using a different meter. I really think it's the meter.

You are correct (again)
I just tried my Fluke set on ac,on three tractors.
.03 was the average.
I was curious cause I had never tried it
I did expect a little more, not what the OP had, but a couple of volts maybe.
I was wrong. Wasn’t the first, won’t be the last.

Terry, I checked mine as well with the same results. I did have a 1 volt spike when touching the B+. I am charging the 97. I will post a waveform later.

Cool, I’ve always wanted a 97.

Not much there. Just a few spikes less than 200mv.

Thanks for showing us that Travis!
The battery must fill in the gaps too well to see them.
I still have meter envy though.

It could be my meter it is a $50 model from Lowe’s always seems to work for what I need it for which is simple trouble shooting. I don’t have another meter handy but will try and borrow one and check it again. Or not and not worry about it the mower seems to run fine I ran it for 2 hours cutting the grass with no problems after swapping out the bad rectifier.

Glad it’s working good. Sorry about getting sidetracked about Flukes.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
