Lt1045 drive belt
I have a 7 year old Cub cadet. The drive belt is very worn and need to be changed out. I have watched some videos, and have determined that loosening the engine is the best way to deal with those 3 tabs surrounding the engine pulley.
The only problem is that I can only get to the 2 front engine bolts. The 2 rear bolts appear to be under a metal plate that has some steering linkage/gear on it. Any ideas on how to get to those 2 bolts? Thanks |

You do not have to remove the engine bolts. Remove the mower deck, Then lift the tractor from the front, I use a chain hoist, but a HD floor jack will work.
There is a bolt in the center of the pto, holding it to the engine, remove that bolt and the pto will come down. It may have a belt keeper that you will have to remove but no big deal, easily removed. PS you will need a impact wench to remove the pto bolt. Slip the old belt out and reinstall in reverse order. Here is a parts manual with the parts breakdown that might help. http://www.cubcadet.info/Manuels/200...1050-Parts.pdf

Bamafan,
Should the pulley above the PTO come off as well? They’re are 3 tabs around that particular one that keeps the belt from coming off.... |

OP, once you remove the PTO, the upper pulley should come down off the shaft. Just like ironman said. |

J-mach and Ironman are correct. Been awhile since I did one.

Thx.
I will give it a try. My belt is hanging on by threads in some spots. |

Thx. Pulley slid right off after removing PTO...
How do you normally install the PTO. Can’t really torque it. Just use the same impact wrench? |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
