Default 2165 revive

Today I took some time and closely went over some things with the 2165. For starters this thing had leaked oil bad, seal/ring went back where the oil fill neck going into the block, it sent oil everywhere(sometime prior to me). It has been fixed but there were other issues. The air cleaner assembly was caked in oil and grass/field cuttings. The spark plugs were nothing short of a disaster. The oil inside the engine(what little there was) was very nasty. No bits and pieces coming out or any shinny oil. But in a new air filter, oil filter, and spark plugs. Put in a new battery and it fired right up. The piece of tin work needs to be replaced, it's rotted out and not savable. Other things will be needed but at least it's running a ton better now.

Look on Craigs list for a 2000 series to use for parts. The sheet metal is pretty much the same on all of them. Just my 2 cents I wouldn't put a ton of $$ into any 2000 series. I use 2165 as re-power organ donors.

Yeah the engine is great, and truly other than this one piece of sheet metal and some headlights it's solid, the 2 stage blower and 48" deck that came with it was a bonus, I couldn't pass it up for $150.

For $150, I'd pull the motor and save it to repower an '82 style tractor. Part out what you can, and scrap the rest. I don't think that tractor/blower is worth saving.

Does this series have the same cast iron trans as the later 3000 series? I know the 2518 does.

No. Aluminum rear end housing. Totally different than the 2518.

I am trying to order a lens for the tractor but the only lens I found was $70. I found a complete assembly for only $13 more but I did not see what was on it before. I have a link below, can someone confirm that this is the correct one before I buy it, I am unsure.

Thanks for the reply, I ended up finding one of those on ebay for a little cheaper, I ordered it, be here by the 14th. Kinda hard with some parts manuals, they either have a little drawn picture that is hard to see or no picture at all.

Just a heads up, the 2000's are hard on headlights. They have way too much heat in that area, the plastic gets cooked and they fall out. If you look on Craig's list or FB Marketplace you'll see lots of 2000's without headlights.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
