New to Cubs in CT
Howdy! I just got my hands on a nice IH Cub Cadet 782 (red). It has a mower deck, snow plow, snow thrower, and tiller.
I need a new shaft (the one with the pulley that the belt goes on) for the snow thrower gear box. Am I better off just getting a keyed shaft and making it myself or are parts available out there? Fortunately, my 782 came with a mower deck in good condition. Unfortunately, the reason it was in good condition is that it didn't have the deck lift frame (inside or outside) that you use to hook up the mower deck. I see these on Craigslist all the time, but are the lift decks interchangeable or do I need one specific to the mower deck and 82 series? He He, I also couldn't wait to use the tiller and got into my wife's flower bed--hit the low voltage light wiring right away. Doh! Better patch that before sundown ... I'm in lower Fairfied County (the fungus-infected "toe" of Connecticut). Greetings to all of you! I had a CC when I was a kid living in Palmyra, PA, and it looks like I ended up with a pretty similar model--37 years later and still working like it did back in the day. They just don't make 'em like that anymore. |

I'm a former CT resident, used to live in Watertown. I feel bad for you seeing what Danny Boy Malloy has done to CT.

Don't get me started on that! Employers are tripping over each other to get to the exit. It wasn't that long ago we didn't even have state income tax, now we're one of the higher States and still bankrupt.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
