Default 12hp Kohler oil pan

I have a cub 106 with a k241 that threw a rod, finally got around to replacing it and the new rod bolts backed almost all the way out after running for 20 minutes and now the end cap is destroyed. Have a 12hp sitting in the garage but it does not fit because it has the deep oil pan. Can I trim the rod dipper on the 12hp and use my flat oil pan from the 10hp without destroying the engine? I need to get this tractor going before the snow really starts to fly. Any help is appreciated !

You can....... but I wouldn't.

What pan does the 12hp have that it won't fit? Not a CC style pan I'm assuming, because a 12HP pan that fits the CC would go in the 106. I'd find the correct pan.

As a note, in the future, don't just replace a bad rod. Rebuild the engine and grind the crank. This is the kind of failure that happens when you do a job without doing it right. Did you not torque the bolts???

I think it came off a case, bolts were torqued. Do not have the budget to afford a full rebuild, just trying to get it going to plow my driveway. I have read in other forums that rods can be shortened but isn't recommended for tractors ran frequently on slopes.

Where in Ohio are you located? I have a few good used engines sitting here. PM me if you're interested.

Cast Iron 12HP pans come up on E-bay quite often.
Find the correct pan and you are in business.

Here is an example of what a correct oil pan looks like. The cast iron is desirable over the aluminum. The mounting holes and bosses are worn...this is not a great pan! This is for reference only!!

The pan on my 12hp is similar to that one. The problem is that the deepest part of the pan sits on the crossmember above the front axle

Please take a picture of this chassis and post it here...there are no additional cross members for the frame other than the axle channel and one about half way back under the dash tower.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
