Default Cub Cadet 75

I found this model 75 for sale. I don't know anything about them. Seller said it is all original and has no issues. $300 is that a fair price? Are these rare and what else should I know to look for before buying? Thanks!!

I don't know how rare they are or what not but I had one about 15 years ago that I beat around the yard as a kid and if I remember right the person I gave it to put a new belt on it and used it for a few years before he bought new.

if it runs decently and mows, $300 is a fair price.

Some folks didn't seem to grasp that these were NOT garden tractors...I do remember a few customers at the local IH dealer screaming, cursing and fist-pounding in the front counter that " these ****&&&*** things can't do anything except mow! ! "

My dad got us one of these with a bad motor from a neighbor. The neighbor was gonna throw it out. Cadet 75 comes with a 7 HP B&S and regular blades. The hot rod version was a Cadet 85 which had an 8 HP B&S and hardened blades. All we did with it was mow lots and lots of grass (weeds) and put engines on it. We couldn't keep engines on it for some reason. The engine crankshaft is a stepped shaft where the pulley bolts onto the bottom, so it isn't so easy to just replace the engine. I would think that $300 is a little high, but if it still mows and doesn't just fog the mosquitoes with oil smoke, maybe. Just my $.02 worth, I don't think I would give that much for it.

Default Looking for owner/service manuals and engine options

Just got one myself but having a tough time finding the manuals on this tractor. The stamp on the engine is 170707-1198-01 but when I goto B&S website it does not show up? I plan to just putts around the yard with this little guy. What kind of other engines can I stick in this if I just can't get the one it came with working?

Yeah, I could only find tractor information here and not anything else. Do we have another section I should have checked?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
