Default belt guide for tiller

I have a question for you guys with tillers. Do you really need the belt guide that bolts on the hydro unit? I'm about to put a tiller on my Cub and I read the great post form Wild Bill and like he said most became lost. So, will I be OK with out one, or do you really need it ? I don't want to spend $100 on a belt just to rip it apart. lol

Mine has been fine without it too. No damage has been done to the belt.

Same here! I left my belt on and went to the redneck plow day and plowed with the belt still on the 125 all day long. I would have been sick if I had lost it tho.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
