451 blower on a 1812
will a 451 blower work on a 1812, can you change something to make it work, or just look for a 450?

It will spin too slow. You can install the gear box from a 450 or install a larger pulley on the engine pto clutch.

I'm not sure about the 1812 but you may be correct about the PTO not having a pulley that you can change. I went through the same thing putting a 451 blower on an early 2082 with a magnum 20. I ended up changing the gearbox on the 451 blower so it would run at the correct speed because I couldn't find a PTO to fit the engine shaft. The PTO you need to run that 451 at the right speed will have a 6" diameter pulley. The gearbox for the 450 is tough to find, I got lucky, but I looked for a long time to find one. I'm sure you would be disappointed with the blowers performance if it isn't running at the right speed.

I was thinking the same thing . my 451 is in real nice shape. can you just change the pulley on the blower or do you need to swap the gear boxes?

The gearbox pulley is the same between the 450 and 451 and it's size is such that the belts are in correct alignment with the pulleys on the undercarriage, these blowers are tough enough on belts when everything is in line. The gearbox swap will work, if you can find one. You have more options than I did, I was stuck because there was no PTO available with a 6" pulley and an 1 1/4" shaft to fit my early 2082/Magnum 20. You should have more options, your machine should have a 1 1/8" shaft , a more common size in the CC world.

If you can find one.....Easy, remove the belt cover, remove the 4 nuts that hold the gearbox to the back of the auger housing and slide the gearbox off the drive spline, takes about 5 min. I took a little longer because I opened the box, cleaned the old grease out, inspected the gears and repacked it.

I actually took the clutch apart on a 2082 I had, drilled the 3 rivets out and re-riveted a larger pulley from a later parts clutch on it. Since then I have seen this larger pulley on the same size clutch shoe though, used on another model Cub. Worked great as I was wanting to speed up a 60" Haban deck. The down side of this is it will be spinning your mower faster too! The easy out is replacing the gear box if you can find one. With the blower off takes about 5 minutes. You could change the pulley on the blower to a smaller one and move both idlers in with a shorter belt to speed it up but it may burn up belts.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
