Guess you're seeing a common theme.

Kubota's are one of the best engines out there. My three have 500, 972, and 1016 hours on them respectively and haven't caused one issue. The diesel in general is just hard on the drive line. As long as you watch the drive live and keep everything tight, they will probably outlast the tractor with proper maintenance. Kubota still uses pretty much the same engine type. My B3300 has basically the same engine with an extra cylinder.

My 1512 has 3200+ on the meter, they must have left the key in the on position many times. I think it is the best running one I have.

According to my local Kubota dealer the Cub Cadet engines are the exact same thing as what is used in an actual Kubota tractor. A D600 is a D600 regardless of what it is in. I did hear from a local mower dealer Kawasaki used a plastic cam gear in some of there engines which caused many issues.
