watering system for my vegetable garden

I usually plant about a 1300 sq ft garden, and During the summer months in alabama we sometimes have long dry spells. So mid summer when i'm having to water my garden with the hose it can become a hassle. I have to drag the hose about 125 ft, water, roll it back up. again and again. Not to mention i have to put 2 hose pipes together so it will reach. Plus it makes the water bill go up. So i come up with this so i don't have to keep draging my hose across the yard, plus it's rain water (which is better for your plants anyway).

Nice, I am getting a couple of those tanks in a week or so and have the same thing in mind. Might put one in the basement and run the house water through it, always being flushed and if something happens I have 250 gallons of water stored and ready to use with another 250 outside with rain water. Would like to have two in the house for emergency water and two for rain water. How far is your garden from the tank? Mine will be close to 100 ft so I want to bury some PVC and stub it up at garden, it is all downhill so should have plenty of fall to make it work. Now I am itchin to get my tank going, garden has been in teh ground a week and everything is up, sure haven't needed water yet, but that day will be here quick. Did you put a screen over the tank to filter off leaves and such, what about the fine stuff off the shingles, or is the roof metal? Nice looking set up!

My garden is about 10 or 12 feet from the tank. Yes i did make a screen for the tank, it works really well at keeping the leaves and stuff out. I don't have to worry about fine stuff because my roof is metal. Once i put it up it only took two rain showers to fill it up.

I have wanted one of those containers on a trailer just big enough to hold it. I could park it on the back side of my shop that has a metal roof also, and when needed I could hook too it and pull it to the garden and use a hose from it. I'll get one of those one of these days. Nice set up you have there.
