So going off the 2nd link DM posted above - I do not have the 2nd fuse. Couldn't find one on the wiring diagram. So I started to test for a short and work my way through, guessing best I could about what was ok and not. Wasn't really able to really find anything that jumped out.

Starting thinking about that switch though. Have a 682 sitting around for me to finish a vanguard conversion. Swapped that switch into the 1811, and fuse didn't blow. Tried to start, and it fired. BUT, the starter keeps turning as long as the key is on. Switch is a different part # than the one in the 1811, and the contacts must be different internally. Switched the old switch back in, and it did NOT blow. But it wouldn't do anything when I turned the key either. So for now, it will sit until the new switch shows up. Hopefully that clears everything up. But it sure is frustrating to be this close and have to wait on a switch!

The Ignition Switch in the 1811 has an internal ground. I would venture to say, the internal contacts are messed.

Finally figgered out what the hell was goin on. I had spliced on a Stens ignition switch repair harness (pigtail). Blue to blue, red to red, and so on. But the wires were NOT in the correct location inside the connector! So I had a blue wire goin to the terminal where a white should be, etc. Every one of them was wrong. So I corrected that and once I had the correct wires running to the proper terminals on the ignition switch - she fired right up.

Never thought to check that. Lesson learned

It is always beneficial when all the information is given.

I also replaced some crappy wiring behind the ignition switch with a Sten's repair harness.
In my world, a "harness" is way different than repair "pigtail".

It's all good. I simply called it what Stens calls it. Terminology be damned, as usual help was offered with a problem i had, in an area I know very little about. I appreciate every response and attempt to help and educate. Thanks again

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
